Hillsdale College’s free online classes have many subjects to choose from, each with several modules or lectures you can complete when it’s convenient for you. On average, expect to spend 25 minutes to an hour on each lecture for each course. That means if you’re taking two courses. Each course is different but you can expect to find anywhere from five to twenty-five lectures per course.

Each of our online courses is free to take at your convenience. The content of your courses is divided up into sections, making it easier for you to master content in stages and fit coursework in with your schedule. If you get stuck or need extra support, there you can do so by phone or email.

Assignments that add variety to your learning

A typical week for Hillsdale College online course students includes a a prerecord lecture that the instructor has prepared, and a final quiz which allows you to demonstrate how well you’ve mastered the material. Courses will remain available to take at your convenience for the foreseeable future.

Remember, just because courses are online doesn’t mean they’re easier than in-person courses.

Hillsdale College history and future

Hillsdale College was founded in 1844 with the mission of providing the education necessary to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. In 2011, the College began producing free non-credit online courses in order to extend that mission.

These free, not-for-credit courses are taught by Hillsdale College faculty and are patterned after the education offered on the Hillsdale College campus. They aim to provide students with an education that pursues knowledge of the highest things, forms character, and defends constitutional government.
